The FTC is cracking down on telemarketing companies that offer credit card protection, based on false and misleading claims about identity theft and stolen credit cards.
According to the FTC: Existing federal statutes limit the amount of loss that consumers face to $50 if their credit card is used without their authorization. This makes credit card "protection" packages pitched over the phone essentially worthless.
