FACT Act helps you investigate identity theft In the past, if someone stole your identity and used it to open accounts, you had no right to obtain records from the business where accounts were opened in your name.
Under the new Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACT), an identity theft victim who files a police report can get transaction records.
How do you know where your identity was misused? Your credit report is the best place to start.
