FTC Seeks Comments on Proposed Free Credit Report Rules The Federal Trade Commission is working out the details for free annual credit reports under the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACTA) and the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA).
To address concerns about overwhelming the credit reporting agencies, the FTC is proposing a phased rollout by region. Western states would get their free credit reports as early as December of 2004. Eastern states may have to wait until September of 2005.
